    Hi Everyone,

I want to get the on-site warranty when I purchase an X201. On the X201s customize page, it lists:

Warranty services 1 Year Help me decide Help me decide
    1YR Onsite [add $39]

Warranty services 2 Years Help me decide Help me decide
    2YR Onsite [add $139]

    -----

Does anyone know why the 2YR onsite is not $78? If I purchase X201 with 1YR Onsite now, can I purchase another 1YR Onsite after 1YR I own the laptop?

The 1 year on-site is cheap because it's an upgrade of the factory 1 year return-to-depot warranty. The 2 year on-site isn't simply 2x the 1 year on-site because it's also extending the basic part of the warranty. Does that make sense?

Also warranties are done with an aging schedule. The older the laptop the higher probability of it needing repairs or at higher cost. Because you're basically buying insurance they need to price their warranties like that because of the higher expected costs. Onsite also obviously cost more than depot (sending it in).

I might go with Depot, because I have read some reviews about the Onsite that you will never know who you are going to get. The person might never see the module or might has itchy skill ... which might damage your laptop. if I send it back to lenovo, at least I know they have people who will do the right things to fix the laptop.

The person at the depot could be new too. It's been my experience the on-site tends to be better.

At least with on-site you can sit down riiiight over their shoulder and watch what their doing and evaluate the repair before they leave incase you're not happy with the fix. I much prefer onsite to depot. The guy knows you're watching him and he's not going to be careless with your laptop in your presence at least. When it goes to the depot, they could do anything to it and you wouldn't know about it.

i would always prefer on-site too. it is just lucky that my university's IT computer repair department is also certified Lenovo and Apple depot. So I just needed to go to campus for it.

I seem to hear far more problems with the depot repairs than with on-site. The problem with Depot is that every time they don't fix the problem right, you are looking at another 4 days to a week of shipping time. The on-site service I have gotten has always been just fine. It's not rocket science, the guys are just replacing stock parts.

Also if they don't have a part, they order it and then reschedule when they can do the repair. There is less guess work. That being said I had a great experience with the depot. But I see the value of on-site.

I sprung for the on-site warranty also. I just don't want to wait for the shipping back and forth to a depot. Also, as others have said, you can help "guide" the technicians if you're right there with them. :)
