When you go to Control Panel>System on my Dad's IBM ThinkPad X60, it displays something like "Intel (tm) Processor T2500 1.83 ghz 987 mhz 1.0 GB of RAM." What is the 987 mhz number represent? I know it's not FSB, but I am clueless otherwise what it is. My numbers there might be a little off, but that's about what it said.

It means the CPU is currently running at 987MHz. All Intel notebook CPUs underclock their speeds when you're not doing any intensive tasks to maximize battery efficiency.
-
You can adjust the speed of your processor (underclock or overclock) in the bios (correct me if i'm mistaken). That processor has the potential to run safely, and faster, at 1830 MHz+.
-
u can adjust it through power manager by selecting maximum performance, and for sure it drains battery life fast too
-
If you don't need all the power, than ya, keep it at a minimum for maximum battery life, as wtm0325 has stated.

I figured it was something like that, I was just surprised it was displayed there. Thanks for the quick answers!

No problem, anytime.
