I have a pretty dusty, and old laptop that I've had for a while, and I'm upgrading. However I need an external optical drive, and I remembered that the IBM optical drive can be removed. Is there any way I can buy a cable to connect the optical drive through a USB port? Thanks.

Not that I know of, but considering how cheap you can get a USB-capable optical drive, I would just pick one up off of NewEgg or the like.

Ive seen adapters sold on ebay that are made to connect to ultrabay ODD's connector and use USB cable to plug it into computer.
They werent too cheap tho, close to brand new external ODD's if IIRC and perhaps brand new external drive would be better choice, it would have warranty too unlike Chinese goods that carry no real life warranty.

    Hmm, thanks.
Any reliable external optical drives you know of?

Most brand of optical drive from reputable online sellers are quite reliable. You just need to find one that fits your budget.
