I am currently following the steps mentioned in the sticky section on how to do a clean install of vista on my Lenovo. I tried to do a search for my question but I didn't find anything conclusive. My question is: Since I did not purchase the DVD recorder for my notebook, will I still be able to make recovery disks using regular CDs?

Yes, but it'll take around 11 of them. Fun stuff, swapping them out every 10 minutes.
-
If you could somehow get access to a external DVD burner, it may be worth it to burn the recovery discs.
-
did your system come with an "anytime upgrade" dvd? If it did, you can use this to perform a clean install on your system...not quite as easy as a recovery, but definitely worth a shot if you are trying to get your resource usage down.
If you are going to use CD's make sure you use good quality media as you do not want to start with a recovery just to find out one of your CD's is jacked up. -
Can we use this "anytime upgrade" disc to recover in case of an hdd failure ?? I thought that we could only if we have created Recovery Discs first.
-
You can use the Anytime Upgrade disc to install Vista. It will not restore your system to its factory state which the recovery discs will do and why it is so important you make them.

I see...so we have first the option of the hidden partition so we can restore from there through Thinkvantage, second (and if the whole hdd is went dead) the recovery disks and third the Anytime Upgrade cd (but no factory settings) correct ?
-
Essentially true. The Anytime disc is nice because you can do a clean install.
-
fourth option is to revert back to windows xp professional, assuming you own a licence for vista business or ultimate.

I was pleasantly surprised that my T61p came with recovery disks. This is the first Lenovo that I have purchased to come with them and I have purchased 3 previously.
