So I've read all of the guides here, all of the guides on the thinkpads.com forums, and the rest of the threads dealing with this question, but I'm still confused on a couple of points. Here are my questions (have a t61p BTW):
1. So is the boot disc created by lenovo's recovery program a disc that can function as an XP SP2 install disc? If not, are my recovery discs simply a way to restore a fresh operating system WITH that partition that I'll have no use for.
2. If this disc is in fact NOT a disc that will allow me to install XP, how do I obtain one that will allow me to install XP that will function with the OEM serial code printed on the bottom of my t61p?
My confusion lies within the fact that the guide in the lenovo sticky deals with a reinstallation of vista WITH a separate disc (mentions no method of obtaining an XP disc) other guides/threads have mentioned the need of an installation disc with XP, and others have just specified a need for the recovery discs.

The recovery discs are not a Windows disc. Make the recovery discs if only for when you sell your notebook at a later date so you can restore it.
You'd have to buy one. If you can find one it may work as well though your key will probably not.
