I'm getting ready to do a clean install of Vista on my T60 and have a few questions.

    1. SATA: Now I know when installing XP, at the beginning, it says to press a certain key to install SATA drivers... My question is, do I need to do this with Vista? I've never installed Vista before, so I have no idea what it's like. If so, I'm assuming I can download the SATA driver off the lenovo site?

I thought I had more questions, but I guess that's it, lol. Anyway, I plan to reinstall it using my windows anytime upgrade dvd, and generally plan to follow this procedure: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=119587
    Any tips?

Also, I plan to delete the recovery partition since I have no need for it, and would rather have the extra space...

    oh, here's one...

    2. I've activated my TPM chip already...will I encounter any problems with this?

Huh? I'm pretty sure you're thinking of RAID drivers, not SATA. Windows XP will work just fine with SATA Hard drives without any sort of special setup.

Now, there are additional SATA and IDE drivers in your chipset driver package sometimes, but that would be installed after you get Windows up and running. And your best bet would be from the Intel website, as that'll always be the latest version (look for mobile 945 chipset for a T60, and 965 for a T61).

I'm pretty sure that if you install the original rtm build of xp, you will need to provide sata drivers (for some chipsets/drives). I use up to date "slipstreamed" xp CDs. I can't see that being a problem with vista.... :)

All the drivers are in the IBMTools folder if they are still calling it that. Just burn it off onto a disc then in device manager you can have it search the disc for the driver. That's what I did.

Actually, for the T60 and similar systems, you have to set the SATA mode to compatibility mode first, then install Windows, then install the Intel Matrix drivers, then set the SATA mode to AHCI. Some people prefer to set the SATA mode to AHCI before installing Windows, but then you'll need to have the Intel Matrix drivers on floppy disks, or streamlined into the XP install CD.
