My g/f and i recently bought a T40 used and i've been spending some time updating it since the original owner did a clean erase of the hard drive. He supplied the IBM recovery CDs which was cool and i have been downloading all the available XP updates and IBM updates.

What i noticed after i installed the recent BIOS update is that at times, the computer will drastacially slow down when:

    typing
    scrolling

Almost like it was doing it in "slow motion." Is this possibly related to the BIOS update i did or is it something else? For instance this problem occurred 3 times while typing this post.

Is there a way i can get an older BIOS version to see if that is the case?

    Thanks
    Jim

    Jim,
I hate to see your used notebook fall apart on you. I doubt that it's the bios. Sometimes the hardrive can lag a bit. try defragmenting the hard drive at least 2 times and restart the computer at least 2 times. If you still have problems ask yourself, why didn't I just buy a brand new thinkpad!

Sometimes searching for great bargains can be a great disappointment. Good Luck!

Karl, there is nothing wrong with this laptop and the hard drive and i already defragged the hard drive.

This only started happening after I installed the new BIOS update. It wasn't a problem before.

    HOWEVER

I just downloaded a registry cleaner and anti-virus software and installed/ran both. The issue is now gone. So it probably had something to do with the 60-80 useless items that were in the registry.
