I just noticed this rocking sound coming from the expansion slot under the left palm rest. When you shake(lightly) the T400 from left to right I hear either something sliding or a part loose.

I opened up my T400 and looked to see what was causing the sound. Its a part thats used to lock the expansion slot in place, part of the two grey buttons on the exterior.

Anyway, my question is whether this is an issue with all T400s or if something just broke on mine. I dont recall hearing this before and I think it may have just started happening recently. I dont use the expansion slot at all so I dont get why anything would break. I've never dropped the T400 nor abused it in any way.

    ?!?!?!?!

browsing through the hardware maintenance manual it looks like i'd need to remove the base cover and structure frame just to remove that expansion frame.

great, its only been out of warranty for one month and now they wont do anything about it. want me to take it to a service center.

i'm guessing its not possible to buy a warranty extension now huh?

I don't think so Max and it's why I urge people to buy as much warranty for as long as they think they may use their computer.

oh wow thanks alot. hopefully theyre not too expensive.

ive opened up the T400 and may just replace the express card slot. ive looked up the prices for it and theyre around 10 to 20 bucks but i'm unsure which exact part i have in my T400.

but thanks anyway, i'm gonna call them up now. will i be able to send it in for repair right after i purchase this warranty though?

the warranty will take 1~3 weeks to kick in.   once you see the new warranty show up in the lookup, you're free to call in with any issue you may have.

So this applies globally or just in the USA? i have been asking some people about it, but they seem to be completely oblivious to this new policy.

Even if you buy extended warranty, if the part is broken they might claim "physical abuse" and not honor warranty.

maybe the thinkpad accidental protection warranty is better, and i will be getting this in all my future thinkpad laptops.
