I would like to confirm or deny the rumor that the Samsung model of the 14.0" 1600x900 display has noticeably higher contrast than the AUO/LG models. I ask because I have a friend who is a T420 owner and is unsatisfied with the contrast of his AUO 1600x900 display. I mentioned the possibility of swapping in the Samsung display but I'd like some confirmation on whether that would actually be a significant upgrade.

I have seen both the AUO and the LG models side-by-side, in a floor-model T420 and floor-model T420s (respectively) in my university's bookstore, and find the contrast of the two to be similar. Both have poor contrast. The LG display is just slightly less grainy and has a smoother matte finish.

To check if you have the Samsung display:
    - Download HWInfo: HWiNFO32 Download
    - Run HWInfo
    - Under the "Monitor" tab, look for the model number. It should start with "LTN", or it may even say "Samsung" somewhere on the page. Bonus points: Post a screenshot of the page or at least post the model number.

If you're willing to help, I'm looking for some comparison photos of the following:
    - Samsung T420(s) display showing all-black next to desktop monitor showing all-black (photo taken straight-on, screens not tilted forwards or backwards) - Set the displays to a comparable brightness setting.
    - Samsung T420(s) display showing all-black next to standard (low-end) laptop display showing all-black (again, photo taken straight-on) - Set the displays to a comparable brightness setting.
    - Samsung T420(s) display showing wallpaper-ish picture that has both darker and lighter colors, photographed straight-on, from the left, and from the right. Upwards and downwards would be a plus, but aren't as high of a priority.
    - Samsung T420(s) display showing wallpaper-ish picture next to a Macbook display (or any other display I haven't mentioned) showing the same picture.
