Is it really worth it?
I've been playing with the idea of getting the t61p because I think it might be a great computer, but all I've really seen people do here is complain about Lenovos service and how there are constant delays and Lenovo pretty much bites when it comes to customer service... it's really made me wonder if it's worth trying to get one of these if I would have to go through all this mess when I could just as well order a lappy from another company.
It also makes me wonder whether or not the 3 Year Depot Upgrade with 3 Year ThinkPad Protection would be worth the money spent to get it if Lenovo is really this hard to work with.
I was really looking forward to getting a t61p, but now I dunno. I'm sick of dealing with companies who don't care about their customers and I'm not sure I would want to have to fight every week to get my product.

lenovo (aka ex IBM) is a well established company with its quirky up&down in services. $$$ and system performance fit u, ur choice
extended warranty is always good, but like any insurance policy, sometimes u have to find to get what it is supposed to come to u
cheers ... -
Customer service, i can't speak for...but to be honest, I've never had a problem when dealing with Lenovo customer service. Sure there are delays, but every manufacturer has delays right now due to low inventory on parts.
You gotta think about it this way, the people who post on the forums to complain are only a small percentage of all the customers. Not many people will make a specific post in a forum to praise a company that has shipped on time and gave great service.
I say order it if it's what you really want, but you've been warned about the delays so know what the worst to expect is from other people's experiences. -
The reason you see so many problems is because it is more likely for someone to complain then to praise. When someone has a problem the first thing they are going to do is complain to everyone around them. When someone has a great experience they just sit there, shut up, and they enjoy their laptop. That is what you are seeing.

Keep in mind the majority of people here post BECAUSE they are having issues...not despite. For every person having issues there are probably hundreds having none whatsoever.
just saw that illmatic beat me to it -
I personally have nothing but praise for customer service. Never had a problem. they've given my a pricemath no problems, they've fully refunded my return, gave me a replacement, and are now doing another pricematch. Everything has been going smoothly. Not to mention I called yesterday and waited for about 5 seconds.

A few things you may want to note. Most of the complaints i have read by people is about shipping delays. Yet so many people wait for one, two, or more months for their thinkpad. granted they complain about the wait, but still they wait. that says a lot in my opinion. also most of the customer service complaints have to do with the shipping delays. people are unhappy that a csr can not magically ship them their laptop when the company has no parts to build it with. i would bet that in a couple of months once the backlog of orders has cleared and its easier for lenovo to get computers out of the door quickly you will not hear near as many complaints. Also as others have mentioned for every complaint you read on these forums there are many happpy customers. If a thinkpad is what you really want and dont mind waiting a little while, i would say get it. I have been waiting for nearly six weeks for mine and will wait longer. I am getting a little annoyed, but that is not because lenovo is a horrible company, but because and can hardly wait for my great new computer to arrive. In other words if i get upset its not because lenovo is a bad company but because they have such a great product that i dont like waiting for. -
I had a general question about the restore disks, called up the customer service line, and got the IBM Tech Center in Atlanta. They were quick, knowledgeable, and easy to deal with.
Shipping delays are known with Lenovo, but they may not affect your order. My T61 shipped 3 business days after my order was placed. -
I had ordered a T61 after much consideration. I earlier used T21 and R40e and the built quality was top-notch. But my experience with T61 was not pleasant.
The T61 after about a month of use suddenly does not power on. I checked with the Thinkpad authorized service centre and they said it was motherboard failure. Well the motherboard is to be replaced under warranty.Hope this is a rare case.
Wondering how such a well built model could fail so soon with such a critical component. -
I think the high reputation that IBM has is IBM's and not Lenovo's.
Lenovo's a new company, hardly a year old who has a lot of growing up to do.
From my own experience Lenovo's CS department has a lot to learn and I won't be getting anything from them again. -

if you want a thinkpad, i think right now is the time to order. so many ppl are being shipped wayyyy earlier than the ESD. my friend ordered a few days ago (i ordered 8/12), and his is going to be here this monday.
either way, its worth the wait, and i had no trouble canceling my first mistake order (even though i heard horror stories about ppl receiving laptops they canceled). -
I order T61 on 8/24/07 and got it today i.e 8/31/2007, pretty fast. I have read the delay shipment and pathetic customer care but i took the chance
.
Today i saw that I am getting better deal for T61 and contacted lenovo CC department but they say that they will charge restocking fee. I have talked with 3 different rep, 2 say that they will not charge any fees and but 1 rep say that they will. I think lenovo should teach CC about the return policies. Any comments?
