So I snagged a really cheap X230i tablet from eBay for $390. It works great, but there are some things wrong with it that I would like fixed.

I was surprised to find that it has the Thinkpad Plus and Thinkpad Protection warranty with 533 days remaining. Woo-hoo!

Here is a list of things that are in need of repair:

    • The internal battery lock switch has broken off (the plastic hook is gone)
    • There is serious ghosting issues with the LED panel...almost like burn-in
    • There is a white pressure spot on the display
    • The left side of the wrist rest is cracked
    • The hinge is very loose...if I tilt the display to ~35 degrees, it falls all the way down flat under its own weight

Since this has the highest warranty (i.e. if you drop it and it breaks into a million pieces, it's covered) can I call up Lenovo, give them my above list, mail it off and will they fix everything? Or will they tell me to pound sand because I'm being picky?

Not trying to work the system here, but hey, if it's covered under the premium warranty, then I might as well take advantage of it, right?

    Thanks.

    ?

$390 with 1.5 years left on an accidental damage warranty (seller obviously didn't know) is a steal. I can live with everything for the price I paid, but since it has the "we will fix anything" warranty, I want some real advice on how Lenovo handles these types of requests (surely I'm not the first person ever to try this).

Anyhow, thanks for your help and deep thoughts.

Just call them and make sure that they write down all the points. You should be fine.

Do bear in mind that physically damaged stuff (palmrest, battery latch, possibly hinge and pressure mark on the LCD) has the limit of one repair per year, so everything that you deem that needs to be replaced has to be on that "list".

    Good luck.

I bought an X230T off ebay awhile back and it came with that warranty also. Was very surprised (and a little skeptical) but I had to use it once to replace the keyboard and had no problems at all.
