Lenovo allows you to choose a T61 with a mobile broadband option. I was thinking of getting this but using it possible in the future. On the order page they let you choose between Cingular or Verizon. I wanted to get Verizon, but the page said that once you choose Verizon, they will get in touch with me after the sale to setup a Monthly plan/contract. I can understand this if I wanted to use their cellphone network right away, but I don't want to use it right now. Can't I just get this option now. but pay for it later?

i think you could probably tell that (you want the service, but not now) to verizon and be in the clear. just tell them you can't afford it right now. they can not automatically sign you up for the contract. you might want to call verizon before making the purchase, as you may be able to get the card for less, free even, if you sign up for their service. but it wouldn't be integrated, then... it might pay off in spades for you to research the wwan networks in your vicinity. maybe sprint service crushes verizon in that area, i would ask around.

Ok, thats what i was worried about, them signing me up automatically. Verizon is a PITA to deal with. I just recently spent 4 hours on the phone with them related to another issue. Is there a piece of hardware that Lenovo installs on the machine that allows for this Cell phone network ability, like a PCI card etc?

it can either be integrated, or a card. integrated you want probably need to buy with the computer. if you didn't mind the card, you could get it later.
