I'm getting X200 w/o an optical drive.. so should anything go wrong, would I be able to recover the system by simply plugging the USB external DVD drive and insert Windows Vista CD? (By the way, is there option to make recovery CD in the notebook?)
And I have a retail Vista Ultimate CD so I'm going to upgrade them as soon as I receive it. It would upgrade directly from Home Basic to Ultimate by following the same process above using USB external DVD drive?

I believe the answer is yes for both of your question, but since I don't have a laptop with a USB external DVD drive I will let someone else confirm this.

Thanks.. can anybody confirm this for me?

Yeap. Just plug in the external USB. Insert your Vista, then do a restart. Vista installation wil start.

Thanks for the reply. So I don't need to change BIOS option (ex: like priority loading) if in case the laptop goes wrong?

Oh, sure. You'll have to set the boot order to CD first. There's little chance of the laptop going kaput if you're just installing vista.

Last question: I only change the BIOs option if in case the laptop goes wrong right?
In other cases (ex: normal installation), all I need to do is just plug in the external USB DVD drive and install the right?
Sorry for asking too many questions. Thank you! -
It's all right
Well, it depends on the BIOS. Some bios settings may have it so that the HD boots first, so if it can boot from the HD, it will, and ignore your DVD drive. To prevent this, just change the boot order permanently in the BIOS, or temporarily for that session only.
