I just bought a used IBM Thinkpad X40, 1.2 Pent. M, 1.5GB RAM, 60GB HD. I got Windows 7 Home Premium up and running, runs fine with Aero disabled, managed to get the Intel graphics to run, so that helps. The 8 cell battery that it came with has 80% capacity left, around 52 WH, and gives me about 5 hours battery time.

First Question: I was thinking of picking up a new battery through Lenovo outlet for $80, just to have. First is this a good price, and can I keep this without using it for a few months without it degrading?

Also, the original keyboard is a little sticky. Is Ebay the only place to find new or used X40 keyboards, or can you order them through Lenovo (if yes, could someone direct me to the link)?

Overall, very impressed with the X40, and its ability to run Window 7.

    1. if you are going to keep it for few months, then it is advisable to keep it charged to about 40 per cent before you store it away.

    2. If you are in USA, then you probably can order the part through IBM parts (provided they have the parts still). But ebay or marketplace of forum.thinkpads.com is probably the cheaper option (try the latter first).

$80 seems rather expensive, seeing as the X40 isn't the current-gen model, by far.

Th older the battery the harder it is to source, which makes $80 seem more palatable if you want a genuine battery.
