Hi everyone, I ordered a T550 with the base screen and would like to upgrade it after it arrives, I'm interested in learning more about the kinds of screens that are compatible electronically (voltage, current, what have you) to avoid any issues. Am I right in understanding that any edp screen can be used in any edp laptop, from an electronic standpoint? (physical size aside). It looks like there may be more than one version of the edp standard though.

If that's the case, can I assume there would be no issues upgrading the T550 display to the B156HAN01.2? It seems like people have had good luck using that display in the Y50, but obviously that's a different computer than the new T550.

    Thanks for any input.

Is the upgrade to the Lenovo display 1920 x 1080 FHD for $120 (USD) that bad that you would rather spend $79 - $89 for the screen referenced above. You might also want to check and see if you replace the screen, if that voids your warranty.

    I
It's too late to change the configuration and I didn't think their 1080 had IPS.

Yes. The FHD panel on these machines is *that* bad.

It does - to what extent is somewhat of a gray area - but there's nothing stopping OP from re-installing the original panel if the system were to be sent back for service...

Yeah, swapping the original panel back in was my plan exactly. I intend to get a new bezel (and order it from my friends' name and address so it isn't in lenovo's system, lol) in case the original one appears to be tampered with if I need to take it off then put it back on more than once. At this point though I just want to be really sure about what I'm doing with the screens before I swap them because I haven't been able to find much information even after searching a lot.

I'm certain that you can find the bezel on feebay for far less than what Lenovo would charge you for it.

    Good luck and happy upgrading.

That's a good idea, I'll have to check there. I'm starting to think there won't be issues using the screen since eDP is a "standard" but if anyone else can educate me that would be helpful. I might have to be the person that experiments with the new laptop, if that has to be the case I'll report back with my results if anyone else with a T550 wants to upgrade their screen (I'd imagine it's likely).

While eDP is a standard per se, the pinouts of the screens must match as well. You need specsheets for both panels involved.

    Good luck.

It may be a start to find out the exact model of the default installed LCD, then using google and panelook.com, you may be able to find detailed specification about it, and possibly find a list of compatible models.

a quick ebay search shows that some are selling "N156BGE-E11" and "B156XTN02.6" as compatible with t540, but those are only 1366x768, higher resolution may be different

There maybe software like HWINFO64 and AIDA64 that can help find out the lcd model number without opening up the LCD assembly.
