It seems in my reading that the power on password can now be removed without replacing the motherboard. Please tell me this is not true! BTW using a T61p

    TIA

You mean the CMOS passwords???? Yes it can be removed without replacing the motherboard. I've done that quite a few times.

Not sure if the CMOS password is the same. The power on password is presented when you first boot up. Its the one that wont let you boot up the computer unless you enter it. On my r40, if you forgot that password... you needed a new motherboard or do some tricks with a soldering iron... I plan on putting it on my lappy but it would suck if it can be removed.
I will have to pull up some old manuals because as I feel I may have had a false sense of security..
