Am about to order a T61 for grad school which starts in Aug. I was a bit puzzled with the warranty options:

Ideally I would like a 2yr thinkpad protection with a onsite warranty so that I can be completely covered for the duration of grad school.

    1) For this purpose do I have to buy both:

    a) 2 year onsite 9x5 Next Business Day [add $159.00]
    and
    b) 2 Year On Site Upgrade with 2 Year ThinkPad Protection[add $249.00]

Or will the second option(b) cover both the things.
Does the onsite upgrade in the second option(b) mean the warranty upgrade? If yes, is it next business day.

    2) Does the 9 Cell Lithium battery protrude out of the T60/T61 notebook when compared with the 6 cell one. Is there a significant weight difference.

    3) I need my Laptop by the end of July or at the most 1st week of Aug. Given the delayed delivery schedules of the T61, do you think that I can afford to wait a week or two(for a better deal) or should i place the order immediately to get the Laptop in time.

Sorry if the questions are a bit naive; this is my first post in the forum.

    Thanks.

    1) i believe that b covers both

    2) not sure

    3) i think you'd be okay if you had to wait. they should have their s*** together by then. but i don't think just waiting a couple weeks would put you in a spot for a much better deal...

order it and either cancel or get a price match if a better deal comes along.

You can return it anytime without a restocking fee as long as hasn't been opened though I think there is a shipping charge.

Yes the nine cell will stick out the back, but I never noticed it on my T42.

I just called Lenovo Customer service(before reading this thread) and after waiting for a considerable time was transferred to terse guy who just told me that Thinkpad protection and onsite warranty are different and they must be purchased separately. He seemed eager to hang up the phone..(I thought Lenovo had great customer service?..)

Anyway..Sorry if this comes as rude/repetitive, I just wanted to confirm again whether option b) covers both the onsite next business day warranty and the thinkpad protection.I'll probably order today(so that I get my machine by July-end for sure) and thought that I would get an opinion here.

Right.. Then I guess the upgrade makes sense, since it's only 30 bucks. Thanks.

When I ordered my T60 last month it was explicitly clear that purchasing accident protection automatically upgraded the basic warranty to the same amount of time. The Lenovo rep might be correct in the sense that you can upgrade the basic hardware warranty WITHOUT purchasing accident protection BUT you can't do the reverse. Otherwise, if your basic warranty had expired and you still hard accident protection, you could always claim that your hard drive went bad because you dropped it....
