Will the 1.8ghz be much faster than the 1.6ghz

How useful is the wwan antenna to have if you are still not sure if you will pay for a wireless plan.

Also I been reading that the 8 cell battery is not as sturdy attached to the lap.

I basically narrowed my choices down to sony tx, x60, and dell d420.
But I saw the sony and the screen is really tiny.

Does anyone currently have the x60 and wish they purchased an ultraportable with an optical drive.

    Thanks.

1.) 1.6GHz will more than likely be plenty of processing power unless you will be doing a lot of encoding/video editing.
2.) The WWAN antenna will not server a purpose until you have a wireless plan. However, there is a way where you can pay a flat-fee (something like 15 dollars) for a 24 hour period. This might come in hand in a pinch.
3.) I don't know about the 8-cell, but I have not heard any complaints.
4.) If you need an optical drive there are always external solutions as well as the x6 ultrabase.
5.) I'm going to move this to the IBM/Lenovo forum so that you get more responses.

I have had my x60 for almost a month now. And have to say its my new best friend. I'm so glad I took the time to research a notebook before I found this guy. Its the best investment I have ever made.

As far as optical drive, I bought a used external one on ebay that I have only used a couple times. Clean install of xp, and install of linux.

The extra battery doesn't bother me at all. It sticks out but I could care less when I'm getting 8 hours battery life.

The optical drive is only important if you need it.

Thanks for the replies. I have another question. What would you buy a x60 or x60s. Is the x60s that much slimmer. I thought hard about getting a sony tx but even though its looks so cool, after a scratch or two on the case, wouldn't be happy anyway. I have a IBM lap and it can take a beating, case still looks the same.
You think for the price, lenovo would give you better video card and more ram.

When I was shopping for a new laptop, it came down to T60 with 14" screen, X60s, and Dell Latitude D620.

From what I understand, X60s only comes with an integrated chipset and the Dell Latitude comes with a dedicated graphics card that DOES NOT have built-in DirectX support which is essential for games.

If X60 had the option for a dedicated graphics card, I would have chosen it in a heart beat.

X60s weighs about 2.7lbs while X60 weighs about 3.2lbs (source: CNET)

The x60s uses low voltage CPU as well. You'll get better battery life on the x60s, but I suppose it will depend on your needs.

Well I just ordered the bland looking x60, can pick it up in a couple hrs. Come with 8 cell battery also ordered extra gig of ram. Ya the integrated chipset is a downer but I don't play games so .. I'll pick up a T60 or something else a little later to replace my aging IBM. These 2 HP tablet pcs I have are just not getting the job done. Virtual keyboards are just crap for typing.

Johnny what did you end up getting.

    Thanks.

    I ended up getting a 14" SGXA+ T60. This one is a little over 4lbs if I'm not mistaken.

I have the same T60 as you (6 cell battery) and on my scale, it weighs 5.1lbs. However, most websites (including Lenovo's I believe) say it weighs about 4.5lbs. I was disappointed when I saw this, but I soon realized two things:

    1) My scale could be wrong. It is only a simple, standard, household scale.
    2) If I do not consider it heavy, why should I be disappointed about the exact weight?

I just picked up my x60 few hours ago. Keyboard is fantastic. lap is amazing, though screen size little on the small side. The 8 cell battery does not sit tight into the lap, it wobbles a bit, don't know why they couldn't come up with a better solution. Not that bothersome but when you pay 2k for a lap ... Battery life is amazing though. I'm quite happy with it thus far. Fingerprint reader works flawlessly.

Well I used the x60 for 2 days now. On a full charge for a 8-cell battery, it shows 3.5 hrs of battery life but I do have settings on max. power. i thought I would get more life out of the optional battery. Good thing I didn't go with the standard 4-cell. It would have been useless.

why don't you put it to max battery?

If your concerned about battery life. I can get around 8 hours battery time

Sorry, I'm not a techie. So the wwan that you can order with the x60 lap (didn't come with mine), can it be easily installed now. Or just better to go and buy a pc card. Just that its less hassle when it is integrated into the lap.

I'm not positive on this one but I think you just need to get a pc card now. Why didn't you have it installed if you want it?

    Because I paid $1850.CAD for my 1.83ghz with 80GB HD, 1.5GB ram
The one with the wwan installed for use with a local cell provider costs $3,000. a substantial difference in price.

Can anyone tell me their experiences with the 8-cell battery fully charged with your machine running on max power, no battery saving features on.
I'm averaging about 3.5 hrs. Little disappointing.

What kind of case are you guys using for your x60. Don't see much on ebay.

    Thanks.

again on max power you shouldn't expect more then 3.5 hours.

What do you do that requires to have max power on when your on the go?

Had the x60 few days. Internet Explorer just keeps crashing on this thing. Freezes up continuously. Anyone experience this, could it be the wireless or other problem.

Edit: Just downloaded Firefox, loads web pages like 5 times faster than the IE on my lap. Every page was taking forever to load up on IE. I scanned for viruses before prior to installing Firefox but found none. Also ran spy sweep. Lets see if Firefox will crash as often as IE.
