    Hey guys,

Looking for a new laptop. I've started getting into video editing, and need something better than what I have. I plan on an msata (prolly 256gb) and a 1tb drive. Whether or not it's oem makes no difference, I was going to drop a 7.2k rpm drive most likely.

It seems the y580 is a great laptop at a perfect price. gt660m. However, I've read things that say (both ways) whether or not CUDA functions properly on it.

I know the quadro fx1000m and fx2000m are best when it comes to video encoding, however the w520 is far out of my price range. Any other laptops with that gpu?

The laptops I have in mind are the lenovo y580 and by severely stretching the budget I might be able to swing the msi gt60 w/ gtx680m (newegg). I can't afford the custom built ones.

I rarely sit in one spot, so a desktop is out of the question (for now).

I plan on doing video editing (nothing professional, just starting a youtube channel that's car related. I do custom vehicle tuning and datalogging on quite a few different vehicles, so I have several programs, but none are very resource intensive. I've made my own multiplexer using arduino uarts to individual modules for faster/better datalogging.

I guess my question is, how well does the gtx660m in the y580 encode video? Since the y580 gets ~4h on the 6 cell battery, hopefully an 8-9 cell battery will do better. I don't mind carrying a spare charged battery. All my vehicles have inverters as well. I carry spare batteries for plenty of goodies anyhow.

Is there going to be an extended battery for the y580? Has anyone done any video editing / encoding on the y580? I plan on running 16gb of ram and OS's on msata (linux / windows 7(or 8)), installed at same time I get the laptop. Also, does anyone have them in stock, or know when newegg is getting them? I need to get one soon.
