I've read through as much as I could find about this topic on both this forum and the rest of the web, so please forgive me if this has already been answered and I somehow missed it. Anyway, I need to buy an optical drive to fill the ultrabay slim slot (on an x6 ultrabase). From my research, I know that this slot is limited to drives that are 9.5mm in height, which seems to be very few. A page at thinkwiki ( http://thinkwiki.org/wiki/UltraBay_Slim_Super_Multi-Burner_Drive) lists four possible drives, of which the Panasonic UJ-852 and LG GSA-U10N seem to be the newest. Here are my questions:

    1) Are there any other 9.5mm optical drives that are comparable to the UJ-852 and GSA-U10N?

    2) Does anybody have any experience with either the UJ-852 or GSA-U10N? Is one better than the other? It's hard to find clear specs on the GSA-U10N (such as if it burns DVD-R DL)

    3) Where is the best place to buy either the UJ-852 or the GSA-U10N?

Thanks so much for the help and the great community!

AFAIK Mat****a and LG are the only ones making the 9.5mm drives.

The X61s I wrote the review for had the LG drive. It seemed alright, but most laptop drives aren't that great. If you burn a lot, an external desktop drive is usually a better option if you don't burn much while traveling. My guess is that is does burn DVD-R DL as most drives nowadays do.

Probably eBay as most manufacturers overcharge for them.

Search on eBay or such for 39T2851 for the Panasonic, or 39T2829 for the LG.
