I was seriously considering purchasing the Dell Ispiron 1420 or Dell XPS M1330until last week. I checked out the Lenovo/IBM website and I like the specs and prices. The Dell XPS M1330 is overpriced and the big turn offs is the whine of the optical drive and the bowing of the keyboard in the center of the laptop. The Dell Isprion 1420 with a 9-cell battery will be a bit heavy to lug around campus everyday and the shipping dates on the machines are ridiculous.
I intend to use the laptop at school. I'll be finishing my last year of university this year and I want this laptop to last me another 2-4 years afterwards. I'll be mostly using it for watching DVD's, word processing, Solitaire, reading .PFD files, and the internet. I've been using my HP for 4 years, the fan is super loud, heavy (it's description described my 7.5 lbs. notebook as "feather light") and I've only brought my notebook to school 16 times to be exact in the last 4 years. I want a notebook that is more portable and lasts more than 1 1/2 hrs on battery life. My budget for a new laptop is under $1600 including taxes (I live in Ontario, Canada so I pay an additional 14%).
I really don't know much about Lenovo notebooks/computers and their build quality except that they are budget notebooks. The Lenovo 3000 v200 model I'm interested in is fixed with: Genuine Windows Vista Ultimate, Intel Core 2 Duo T7300, 2048 MB, 160GB HD, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100, Bluetooth, Fingerprint reader, 6 cell battery, 12.1" screen, 1 year warranty. It's $1579 + tax but I'm fortunate enough to have a F&F EPP code so it's reduced down to $1149 + tax. It has similiar features to the M1330 but for a lower price. I've read all the possible reviews out there about the machine and it almost seems a little too good to be true.
My questions: Does anyone have experience with the Lenovo 3000 v200 model? Is the Lenovo 3000 series reliable and would it last me another 2-3 years? How is Lenovo's build quality? How is Lenvovo's support services? Also, would it be worth it to buy an additional 3 year warranty on this machine (which would increase the price by $300 dollars)?
