Hey guys, first time Thinkpad buyer here. I am about to purchase a T61 but the Lenovo number I called wasn't very helpful.

It is my understanding that the 15.4" model's 6 cell battery does not stick out, but that it does on the 14.1" model. I know that the 4 cell battery does NOT stick out on the 14.1" models.

However, it was my assumption that the STANDARD screen 14.1" T61 had a 6 cell battery that did not stick out since no 4 cell battery option is offered. Is this false? If it does stick out, by how much? Also, how much does the 9 cell stick out?

I assumed that the WIDESCREEN and STANDARD screen models had different dimensions, so it seemed logical to me that the 6-cell on the STANDARD would be flush, or at least more so than the WIDESCREEN.

AFAIK the 14.1" 4:3 standard monitor has a flush 6-cell (as does my 14.1" T60) ... it does stick out on the widescreen 14.1".

Yeah that's what I thought but the Lenovo rep I talked to was adamant that it wasn't. I still think he didn't know what he was talking about.

The nine cell sticks out about 1/2 an inch from the rear. I have it for my R60. It gives better than 50% more battery life than the six cell when it was new though YMMV.

But aren't the 60 and 61 batteries different?

The 6- and 7-cell batteries on the T61 14.1" widescreen both stick out. By about 2 inches I'd say. It doesn't bother me either when carrying the laptop or when using it on a desk (I have a 7-cell battery in a T61 14.1 widescreen). The 4-cell sits flush.

On a T61 14 non-widescreen, I don't know for sure. I think the 6-cell is flush, and the 9-cell sticks out. But don't quote me on that one.

    HTH!

I bought a 14.1" widescreen & it cam with a 6 cell battery which stuck out more than an inch. It annoyed me so much that I ordered a 4 cell battery to replace. I'm much happier with the aesthetics of the flush fitting battery.
