Hi, what are the main differences between these two lines?
Also, does any Thinkpad have a backlit keyboard?
thanks in advance

The "s" denotes a slimmer and more portable version in Thinkpad code. The T410s is thinner and lighter than the T410, with a few sacrifices. The T410s uses 1.8" hard drives, which are more expensive and difficult to find. It also has weaker graphics capability than the T410, although it does have switchable graphics which are absent in the T410.
No Thinkpad has a backlit keyboard - the traditional ThinkLight is used instead. -
i do not believe the graphics options available on the t410s are any different than those available on the t410
with the exception that switchable is available for the t410s
so, if anything, i'd say that the t410 has the weaker graphics options of the two -
Battery life is less on the T410s.

how do you know? there have been no reviews yet
as long as you're comparing 6-cell to 6-cell, i'd imagine they'd have similar battery life -
Tabook:
T410:
6-cell: up to 6.6 hr; 9-cell: up to 11 hr; 9-cell plus Slice battery: up to 22 hr
T410s:
6-cell: up to 4.8 hr; 6-cell plus Ultrabay battery: up to 7.9 hr -
The capacities are probably not the same.

T410 and T410s, despite the name, are basically two different computers. Both are 14", but T410s is much thinner and lighter (and much more expensive).
No Thinkpads has backlit keyboard. Thinkpads' keyboards are designed to be spill-proof, and for this reason, you will probably never see backlit keyboard on Thinkpads. Instead, Thinkpads have "ThinkLight", basically a LED light positioned at the top of the LCD bezel to shoot down the keyboard in dark. It doesn't look as cool as backlit keyboard, but it is actually more useful. -
Thanks for the correction. Both use the Nvidia 3100M, although the discrete switchable graphics model does not seem to be available on the Lenovo website at the moment.
Assuming that the T410s uses the same batteries as the T400s (which are Lithium Polymer and attach at the bottom of the laptop for a maximum of 6 cells, which holds 44Wh), the T410's 6-cell will have much higher capacity (at 57Wh), and therefore will last longer on battery given the same CPU, GPU. -
this is absolute nonsense

SSDs suck? Huh? A SSD is a Ferrari and a mechanical HD is a Toyota Corolla. No, wait. A proper mathematical comparison would be a Ferrari to a bicycle.
For a 1.8 inch drive I think Intel only offers the G1, not the G2. Not that the G1 is bad. The 410s and the G1 would be a pretty nice setup. -
there's a 1.8 inch g2 sitting right here on my desk
they're available
it is sooooo tiny, i literally laughed out loud when i unboxed it -
you clearly haven't a single clue what you're talking about
unless you mean big capacity = good
-
If you have a couple thousand to blow, you can get more capacity in 1.8" SSD than HDD
-
I have a Toshiba SSD I got for under 700 1.8" Lenovo part (G1 so no TRIM), but G3 has TRIM built in. 200 mbits + second is not too shabby...so I agree that not all SSD's suck for T400s or T410s...
Questions....difference between 410 and 410s
