    I own a T500 with a 1680x1050 resolution; however, it's just a tad too high. I feel 1440x900 would have been perfect for me on a 15".

I'm now looking at a T400 @ 1440x900. The screen size as you probably know is 14.1". Would text look a little bigger on that size in comparison to the T500 or would it be about the same?

    Do the math.

    1680/15.4 ? 1440/14.1.

That's not how you get the DPI of a screen. You need height and width measurements of the screen not the diagonal.

    DPI Calculator

    1680x1050 on a 15.4" is 128DPI. 1440x900 on a 14.1" is 120DPI.

Image/font size on the two screens should look close to the same.

Text on a 14" 1440x900 screen will be larger than on a 15.4" 1680x1050 screen, but it will still be roughly the same, as Phinagle said.

    I've used both a 15.4" 1680x1050 R500 and T500 and a 14.1" 1440x900 R61, and far prefer the 120ppi screen. I'm hoping that the 15.6" T510 will be available with a 1600x900 screen, which would also be about 120ppi.

I wasn't measuring DPI. You don't need to know DPI to compare the relative sizes of text on a screen. Just two comparable numbers. Using only the pixel width and diagonal gives you the exact same ratio with a whole lot less math.
