Cheapest X220 tablet I can find is the X220t 4298F1U for around $1150

This particular model is not featured in the tabook but can be found on costcentral, pcsuperstore, provantage and compsource.

Only description all of the above sites give is: X220t Taa 2520m 4gb/320 Mt W7/64, so probably X220 tablet, i5 2520, 4GB RAM, 320HDD, multitouch and Win7 64bit. No further info is given on any of the sites.

So, what does the TAA stand for? Could it be "Trade Adjustment Assistance" (guess "Thioacetamide", "Tanzania Airports Authority" or "Target Aspect Angle" are out of the question :D) and if so, what does this mean? Is this a special item only available to certain people?

Bonus question: On which of the above sites would you order and why?

it's a corporate build for some company with the acronym of "TAA".   however, i have no clue for which company it was built or the exact build specs.

it's not in the PSREF sheets due to being a corporate build.

i don't know whether or not costcentral will let you buy it but you could certainly try.   my guess is that it comes with the absolute bare minimum specs (i3, intel 1000 wireless, etc.).

Doesn't seem to come with 'absolute bare minimum specs' The
info that is given is this: X220t Taa 2520m 4gb/320 Mt W7/64

    So at least:
    - i5 not i3
    - 4GB not 2GB
    - IPS (multitouch)
    - 320GB not 250GB

In fact the specs that are given seem to be on par with the 42962WU model. Wlan card, camera, battery, fingerprintreader and bluetooth remain a mystery though.

I'll ask for exact specs, will post them

ha... i need to post when i'm paying more attention. :D

it very well could be the same as the 4296-2WU config but could be lacking warranty terms or some other significant part.

    Well.. Asked at costcentral:

"Can you give me the specifications of the Lenovo 4298F1U (X220T TAA 2520M 4GB/320 MT W7/64)? They don't seem to be listed on the site or in the Lenovo tabook"

    Their answer:

"Unfortunately I was not able to find the specs on this Lenovo. Please call Lenovo to see if they have any further information for you"

Seems strange they are selling it but can not tell me what exactly I would be buying.

Last update: None of the resellers I emailed could give me the specs on any of the mysterious X220(t) 'TAA' models (4290F0U, 4298F1U and 4298F0U) nor could Lenovo...

Only way to find out for sure seems to be ordering one.

Personally, I'd like to see a complete list of specs before ordering a computer from a third-party retailer.

For that reason, I think I'm going to go with the X220T 4296 at costcentral.com that you had mentioned ( http://www.costcentral.com/proddetail/Lenovo_ThinkPad_X220_Tablet_4296/42962WU/11330708/).

Hopefully I'll be ordering it in the next few days, but I'm a little anxious because the price seems way too good.
Even a week ago when Lenovo offered the X220t's starting at $1300, this build costed $1500+; it'd cost $1800+ now at normal pricing and I am wondering what is up with this?
Can I really order this and get a brand new X220T with these medium-high-end specs for $1200? Is there anything that would qualify this pricetag, or should I stop worrying and just go for it?

Anybody else have experience with anything like this?

4298FxU models are no longer searchable from Costcentral. Could they be pulling them out?
I have my order placed on these models, maybe they'll just be canceled? That would really suck.

Seems like the pulled all the 'TAA' models on costcentral. They are still 'available' (well, you can pre-order them) on other sites like provantage and digitalspyders.

Did you order one without knowing the full specs? Which one did you order?
