Was wondering if you can boot a cd on the X31 from an external Firewire Optical drive?

    Thanks

I don't know if you can boot from a firewire device. I did install Windows via a usb drive on my T41 if that helps.

thanks but my external enclosure is firewire only, so i'm hoping i don't have to buy another usb enclosure.

EDIT: If i do need an external USB drive, does it matter that the x31 doesn't have a powered USB port? that is, would i be able to use one of those slim laptop cd-rom drives that draw power from the usb port rather than its own powersupply?

    thanks

Seen some that say they can, but it's slimline drives, of course.

Is your firewire enclosure 4 pin or 6 pin firewire? I have a six pin, and even with an adaptor, it won't work on my 4 pin laptop because 4 pin isn't powered.

I wish there was a fix aside from getting a six pin pcmcia card. That's gonna hurt the throughput at least. :(
