I was reading that the SL series would not have proprietary docking ports, but I don't know what that is. Is it useful to have? And what is a USB-based port replication system.

A USB port replicator is like a power strip for your computer. It'll add extra ports to your system and it connectes via USB.

    This would be an example,

Thanks arkit3kt. Still don't know what proprietary docking ports are though.

I think that's just the Lenovo docking station specifically made for a certain ThinkPad model. For example, a T61 docking station would not work for a T40.

I suppose there won't be one made for the SL Series.
