Just received my Intel 6300 card for my X230i tablet. I don't have a webcam, by the way.

The Lenovo manual says insert the white, grey and white (?) cable into the card. I only have the grey/black (currently connected to my 6205) and an extra red and blue cable.

Which one do I connect to the 3rd connection (the red or blue)? I believe it's the blue but want to confirm.

I ordered the 6300 before I realized the machine had a 6205 card, which is more than capable. Might as well use a 3x3 configuration, right?

It is whitelisted...there's FRU 60Y3233 printed on the back.

    Thanks.

Ah, crap. The more I read in the Lenovo manual, the more it seems my display isn't wired for a 3x3 wireless setup. Strange since it doesn't have a webcam...

    Wireless WAN antenna, AUX (blue)
    Wireless LAN antenna, AUX (black)
Wireless LAN antenna, MAIN (gray) d Wireless WAN antenna, MAIN (red)
Wireless LAN antenna, 3rd (white) (available on some models)

Edit: well, this is interesting. I booted up with the 6300 installed (grey, black and blue connected - blue in #3) and it the install errored out. When I went into network adapter settings, the 6300 was showing as working, so I connected manually to my network.

There is no network strength indicator in the tray, yet it's working. Lenovo software update is prompting me to install the wireless display drivers, which are specific to the 6300.

Something doesn't seem right here...I don't think the blue wire was the correct connection.

I'm going to take it out and toss it in a drawer I guess. $24 mistake. Oh well.

Gray to the left, black to the right, middle spot open.

    Test and report back.

Ahh, I have put it all back together with the 6205 installed again. I'm curious about your recommendation. What good would that do me? Would it give higher theoretical throughput but running off of 2x2 instead of 3x3?

By the way, things seemed to work fine with the 3rd (blue) connecter plugged in, but I just didn't feel easy about keeping it, since that's the WAN antenna.

The 6300 appeared as functional in device manager, so it definitely works, but not having the white antenna wire has scared me off for some reason.
    What do to...what to do...

Nope. That's just the proper way to wire the card if one is missing the third antenna.

You're really not supposed to use a WWAN antenna for WLAN since they're different...but yes, it does work.

Your call...I've got no wisdom to offer.

Ah, I'm just going to keep the 6205. It works fine. I do find it strange that my X230i tablet doesn't have the white wire, but perhaps it was ordered with the "ready for 3x3" option since it doesn't have a webcam.

No worries. Anyone want a 6300 whitelisted card for, say, $16 shipped? :)

I believe you had to not opt for the webcam and 3x3 ready otherwise it'll default send you a 2x2 as alot of X220/X230 laptops were sold with the "HD" 720p ready webcam.
