Quick question on Warranty

I ordered my notebook with 3-year onsite warranty, but I am a little confused on how long I'm actually covered. Lenovo automatically covers us for the 1-year, but since I upgraded to 3-year does that mean 1+3 = 4 years or does it mean 1-year upgraded erases first year of warranty to receive only 3-years.

I've heard people can upgrade during anytime withing the first year of warranty to 3-year. Doesn't that mean people who bought 3-year get cheated a year?

 

It's three years total. You can upgrade you warranty any time your machine is under warranty, but you may only upgrade once. You can't go from one year to three, then five years. Also, accidental coverage must be added with the first 30 days.

 

So pretty much what your telling me is I should of waited till day 364 to upgrade so I could get an additional full 3-years.

 

I believe it's cheaper to upgrade the warranty when you buy your notebook, then add it later.

Lenovo denies extended warranty coverage

According to Mark, the representative for Lenovo warranty coverage begins from the day you bought the machine, including extended warranty. So when you purchase extended warranty for 3-years at day 364 warranty it still expires on the third year, since warranty was set the day you purchased the machine. No one really gets cheated, 3-years is 3-years, would be nice though if I was able to get 3-year + 364 days.

While you can upgrade your warranty any time before it expires, you can only add accidental damage coverage for a short time after purchase (only within the first 90 days, IIRC.)

 

I thought it was within the first 30 days to get accidental coverage.

 

That could well be. I seemed to have 90 days in my head for some reason, but I don't think I've ever actually looked it up. The only machine that I bought accidental damage coverage for was my X61s, and I got the coverage as part of the initial purchase.

 

Wouldn't a warranty from squaretrade be a better choice? $130.00 for 3 years and that is with accidental damage.
