I was wondering what the main differences between the R and T series are? I'm most interested in build quality and durability, as I will be carrying my laptop around a lot. I have already ordered an R400, but I'm wondering how it compares to the T61 in terms of durability (which I've heard great things about). Will the R400 fall apart on me, or will it be almost as durable as the T61? Thanks.

First The T61 is old. you should be looking at the T4/500. For portability you want the T-series. Usually the R-series is thicker/bigger and has bigger graphics, which doesn't matter so much in a laptop. I hear the T400 has VERY GOOD battery life.
Also the X/T/R lines are the oldest Thinkpad series. -
AFAIK, the T61 has the Roll Cage Design. WHich is excellent. I don tthink the R or new T Series has this, but im not sure. But the T61 will have older specs.
...Anyone want to back me up on this? -
With the R series, they are about .25" thicker, no switchable graphics, instead of the thin ultrabay, they use standard size DVD drives (that is where the extra thickness comes in).
The R series is a good value, enjoy your laptop, and no it won't fall apart on you. -

Why use the word "even"? The t61p is a good machine.

And yeah, the primary differences between the R and T series is the chassis (R is sort of bulky) and specifications (T can be configured with higher end hardware). They still have the great Thinkpad build quality.
R series vs. T series?
