When I make a backup with thinkvantage Rescue and Recovery does that mean everything is backed up including all installed programs? Basically if I were to restore from a previous backup would everything be restored including games that have been installed.

Also if I were to uninstall R&R would the rescue partition still be there? and are there any benefits to uninstalling this software?

Answer is Yes, Yes Yes, Yes/No

The problem is always the important data that you have. You can always reinstall programs. Lets say you do a RnR backup, then work extensively for the next few days without backup. On the 3rd day you got a virus.

    a) Do you recover to exacatly 3 days ago or
    b) Do you want your precious data that may have changed over the 3 days?

In the beginning I use RnR extensively for my business but after a few recovery operation, I decided to uninstall RnR and backup the important data myself. If you choose option b, RnR allows you to select those data that you want to recover, however, it is quite tedious to search for these data and still have the nagging feeling that you missed something.

RnR also builds and use up a lot of storage in progressive backup operation and I need to spend time managing it/backup etc. so in the end, I found it cleaner to NOT use RNR except for the build in blue button recovery partion.

Thanks for the response, but just to make sure I understand, I can remove R&R and still restore my pc back to factory specs with the recovery partition, right?

    Short answer "yes'.

    Longer explainaton:

The hidden partition that is 4 to 5 GB is wired to the blue button. As long as you don't destroy that hidden partition or the boot sector of the window/Vista XP you are okay. If you destroy the boot sector somehow, like installing some dual boot software that modify that sector....you may still repair it using a software at lenovo site.

You see, when the computer boot and you press the blue button, there is some code at the boot sector that directs it to the RnR in the hidden partition. Bascially that how it works.

I took out my RnR long ago. Using www.mozy.com to do a free backup of my important data plus manually backup these data once in a while.
