    hi all

Thinkpad Edge 13 running Win 7
Its out of warranty and I am disappointed that Lenovo phone tech support will not help me since I am out of warranty =(

I used R&R to create the boot disk and recovery disk on usb key.
I then ran the R&R and did a full restore to its factory settings.

However after this, I am not able to boot back into Win 7.
In the black screen, it says

    "windows boot manager
    windows failed to start
    mising a file
    CLFS.SYS
    "

It will not start in normal or safe mode either.

What can I do now to get the machine back alive?
I cannot even get into Windows.
    Any help is appreciated

If the Lenovo recovery solution isn't working for you, I'd get a legal copy of Windows 7 here, and do a clean install myself. Your laptop should have the genuine Windows sticker on the bottom, you can use that to register.

yes i have the genuine stick on the bottom.
it says win 7 pro OA

i will have to get the iso file and make a bootable usb drive.

however how do i know if its 32bit or 64bit as the sticker says "Win 7 Pro OA"
Does it matter for the serial number on the sticker?

It doesn't matter which version as your OEM serial can be used in either 32 bit or 64 bit versions of Windows 7 Professional in this case.

If you have more than 4gb though, use the 64-bit version..

(or is this no longer an issue in Win7??)

    Really weird.
I d/l the ISO for Win 7 Pro 32bit from the links and made a bootable USB.

I installed Win 7 but during the setup stage and there was a "setup.exe application error"
    0x0000006

    eh? What happened?
Was there a problem making the bootable USB from the ISO or is this a hardware failure?

How did you make your Bootable Windows USB Installer? Have you used the Windows USB/DVD Tool?

I should also mention that the original Win7 and Lenovo Partition drives are still in the hdd. Does that affect a fresh install of Win7 onto the hdd?

Or should I completely format the hdd but then means I will completely wipe out the original stuff that came with the computer (and all the lenovo software?)

    Please advise

hey all. thanks for helping me. so looks like it now works
i formated the old partition to be sure i cleaned it all out
    then install win 7

successfully installed and also authenticated my windows key

however now, i cannot seem to get the wifi started on
in "network and sharing center" there is only a broadband connection

how does one start up the wifi ?
Is this a simple case of not having the wifi drivers?

I suggest you download the WiFi driver, then go to the lenovo driver website and download System Update 4, which will install all the other drivers/software. Then download the ThinkVantage Toolbox, which will restore the blue button functionality :)
