Hi all, I want to ask some question about Thinkpad R series..

Currently I want to buy a laptop for my business usage. I'm an IT consultant. At first, I want to buy Toshiba M30 series but I cancelled it bcos of some heat issue..

After searching for about 1 month I decided to get IBM Thinkpad R51. Spec: Centrino 735 (1.7 GHz dothan), 512MB, 15", 40GB, radeon 7500 32MB, DVD-ROM/CD-RW, bluetooth integrated, XP Pro, 3yrs warranty. Price: 1850 US$

I REALLY3 want to buy T42, but.. out of budget hahaha.. In my country a T42 with a good spec is about 2300 US$ (no money hiqs) [|)]

    Some question:

    1) Are the materials built in R series and T series are the same? I mean, that magnesium thing at the screen cover and that Titanium thing at the casing (according to abaxter's T42 biometric review, GREAT review btw) ???

    2) I really3 confuse about flexview screen on Thinkpads. I've read at this forum (CMIIW), all 14" screen on T/R series is NOT a flexview screen, and all 15" screen on T-series is MUST BE a flexview screen, and not all 15" screen on R-series is a flexview screen (depends on how u configure it when u buy it).
    Is.. this.. true???
But, abaxter's T42 screen is not a flexview screen.. so..? Are the R-series and T-series have the same screen quality (whether it's flexview/not)? I really need some explanation here hahaha.. [ :D]

    3) Are there anymore differences between R & T series except for it's thin & weight?

So sorry 'bout my poor english, thx in advance [ ;)]

First of all, here's a link to a review of the R50: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=1729

The R series and T series issue is a bit confusing for sure. You certainly do still get the same quality build with the R series, but some of the components are slightly heavier thereby resulting in a heavier overall machine. You also can't get all the same latest and greatest options included in the R series as you usually can with the T series (such as the latest video card). Other than that, the R series is very similar to the T and a great way save some money. As far as the screen goes with the R series, it's just a standard screen with the matte finish -- no flexview or glossy coating.

Congratulations, and don't feel gouged in your country because a semi-decent T42 also costs about that much in the U.S. (eg. model 2373K1U is US$2279). And the CNET review of the T42 called it a "great value".

Currently (because of many2 temptating review on many2 sites about Thinkpad T series) I want to get an IBM Thinkpad T42 hahaha [ :D]

    It cost about 2100 US$ (15" XGA, centrino 735, 40GB, 256MB)

    T42 which I mentioned earlier (2300 US$) have these specs: 14" SXGA, centrino 735, 40GB, 256MB, finger print reader)

I think I'll go with the cheaper one hahaha.. [ :D]
And by the time I have some more money (buying T42 makes me broke hahaha), I will buy another 512MB RAM [ :D]

    Can't wait to have my T42.. [ :D]
