I have the chance to buy either a R31 or T41. Does anyone know the differences between an R model and a T model, other than the fact that they are from a different series? I don't mind getting an R31 if the only difference is performance b/c I don't feel the price difference is significant to make it a deal breaker. I know the T40 series is probably the best made but what is the difference? Thanks

How much money do you have? I'd be willing to sell you a R52 for 350 or your best offer. It has 1.86 Centrino Pentium M, with 1 Gig of Ram, 80gig HD, Ati Radeon x300(plays f.e.a.r on low settings...counter strike on medium, etc.)
But to answer your question, the T is made of better materials and is thinner. The T also has more advanced technology in regards to housing, and nifty exterior features, not computer specs.
Either way...both of those sound quite old, you should really see which one has better specs, but based on the fact that the T is a higher generation (3 vs. 4) i would go with the T. How much are they going for?
Also, i would do your research and forums and see if they have any inherent flaws. but, those were produced when thinkpad was still owned by IBM, so they should be rock-solid workhorses(with excellent keyboards!) -
I've owned an R30 (very similar to a R31) and I've used the T41/42/43. I would definitely choose the T41. The R31 uses the old pentium 3 or 4 technology, while the T41 should have a Centrino (a Pentium M-based) system. The R40 series (which I also owned) has Pentium 4 or M processors. Any Pentium M (a.k.a. Centrino) is better than any Pentium 3 or 4 system.
Check the specs, but the T series is thinner, weighs less, is built more robustly, and has a very large user base (it was a very popular corporate laptop). If the prices are very similar, get the T41. -
If they're close in price get the T.
