I have a good-ol' IBM ThinkPad R40 (type 2723) and as long as I can remember, (I've had this laptop for a very long time) the microphone has had a 60Hz buzzing noise whenever plugged in. The noise goes away entirely when I touch something metal on the laptop, like VGA port or the metal around the Ethernet and modem, as well as a USB cable connected, AND when I put my hand near the microphone. It also goes away when the laptop is unplugged :p

I'm pretty sure it's an issue with grounding, as I've heard it in every OS I've tried. (It seems to lessen under Ubuntu, however) What can I do to stop this terrible buzz?
