Hi everyone. I'm a die hard Thinkpad fan...my last one was a T20, and although it was a PIII it served me well, until it died in the middle a of business plan meeting. I think it died for good, so I'm in the market for a decent Thinkpad...I've had t40s before and they were great, but it seems that they are still in the low $700s. Recently, a got a quote from a trusted source with the following specs:

    IBM THINKPAD R40 (2682-LAU)

    Pentium 4-Mobile 2.2GH/512 MB RAM/40 GB HD/56K/NIC/WIFI/COMBO/15.1" TFT
    WIN XP PRO

    $600 + Shipping.

First off, I'm confused because your site says that the R40 is a PIII (Lenovo.com says it's Pentium mobile).

I've never even seen an R series. Any thoughts? Any thoughts on the price? Should be looking elsewhere at another brand (Tecra's?, Averatecs? I like that the Averatecs make tiny laptops)...lately portability has been an issue.

Also, what's the difference between r40 and r51?

Anyways, any thoughts, please let me know.
    Thank you,
    tachyonico

PS Yes, in case you ask...uses: some graphics, no video editing, some web design, your typical internet use...most of it the t20 could handle ok...then again, I might be missing on the latest and greatest technology wonders.

The R51 is newer. You can get a used T4x off ebay that probably still has some warranty left for $600.
