I have IBM ThinkPad R50 with Intel Centrino processor. I was wandering if it would be possible to take the original motherboard out and put a new one in, with faster CPU (such as Core2Duo)?

No idea, im not really one for over clocking laptops. You will have to take into consideration the extra heat which comes with over clocking.
