My R500 came with DDR3 memory. I would like to bump up my memory from 1Gb to 4Gb but the DDR3 memory is too expensive now. Can I use DDR2 memory in this laptop? If so, would DDR2 PC-6400 work?

    Thanks in advance.

    No. DDR2 memory won't fit.

no, you can't put DDR2 memory in a DDR3 slot. what you could do is get one 2Gb DDR3 stick (2gb RAM should serve you just fine for a while) and then add a second 2Gb stick when prices have dropped.
