I have an R51 laptop type 1836-BAU. The laptop has always been great for everyday use. The problem lately is that it will only power on while plugged in. Once powered on, I can unplug it and it works fine.

If I power on while no AC power it will fire up for a second and then shut off as if the battery were dead. This makes me think the battery may not have enough juice to start it up. Is that reasonable? The laptop is about 3+ years old so the battery going out wouldn't be entirely surprising.

Is there a way to test this theory or does it sound reasonable that the battery just doesn't have enough juice anymore to start up?
