maybe I'm not looking at every detail, but can someone explain me why when I compare R60s and T60s prices on Lenovo site, the T60 config often gives more for the same price (even if the T60 is superior in term of quality, etc.)

    for example:
    94552CU R60
    256MB RAM
    40GB hard disk
    IntelĀ® Core Solo processor T1300 1660MHz
    1 year warranty
    14.1" XGA screen,etc.
    for 1280$

    vs

    1953D9U T60
    512MB RAM
    60GB Hard disk
    IntelĀ® Core Duo processor T2300e 1660MHz
    1 year warranty
    14.1" XGA screen,etc.
    for 1299$

for 19$ more, the T60 has better hardware in general and all the other advantages of the T series?

(there are also other examples where for a similar price/configuration, the T60 offers a 3 year warranty and a 9cell battery vs 1 year warranty and a 6cell battery for the R60)

I wish I knew what you were looking at because the lenovo site prices look nothing like those.

Yes the pricing on Lenovo Canada is interesting indeed. The T series is a bit lighter and overall better quality. Plus, just looking at components, it is a far better buy. That would be my pick.

If anything the base on the R60 feels more stiff the the T60 due to its rigid roll cage. Obviously you don't get the screen protection like on the T60, but I can only find one small spot on my R60 where I can make it ripple.

It's interesting when I bought my R60 the price difference between the R and the T was about $400 for similarly equipped machines at least in the US, now its about $200. The high cost to upgrade to the C2D on the R60 makes the T60 a bit more attractive. Given the same price I would choose the T, but both are good machines. They share a lot of parts, but the T60 does have some premium features like the FlexView and the GL card.

Zaz: but isn't it abnormal that some R60s are more expensive than some T60s for an equivalent configuration? I always heard that T60s were more expensive because they were premium notebooks and R60s were supposed to be more "budget" notebooks...

Yes, it does seem odd. Perhaps it's Lenovo's way of pushing people towards the T60.

So with my impending order of a Thinkpad to replace my trouble-ridden nc8430 I'm debating between the T60 and R60. Originally I was thinking the T60 was out of my budget, but looking at the price difference (especially since my school's computer store can get discounts on custom-ordered thinkpads) I'm wondering why I'd get an R60 at this point.

There's no reason to expect that identically configured R60 and T60's wouldn't perform exactly the same?

If so, the only difference I can see is that the T60 has a smaller case, comes with an IR receiver and no firewire.

    That's about it, right?
