Is this a good deal? Anyone know of any similar notebooks with this configuration for under $1700?

    - Lenovo ThinkPad R60 9462
    - Core Duo T2500 / 2 GHz
    - Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional
    - Centrino Duo
    - RAM : 1 GB (upgraded to 2GB 667MHz)
    - HD : 100 GB 7200rpm
    - DVD¦RW (¦R DL) / DVD-RAM
    - Gigabit Ethernet
    - 802.11a/b/g
    - TPM
    - fingerprint reader
    - 15" TFT 1400 x 1050 ( SXGA+ )
    - 3 year warranty
    - upgraded to 9 cell battery

    I think thats about it.

I don't think that that is a spectacular deal...I got the one in my sig for 1320 shippped, but that was with an educational discount.

You can almost get the 15" T60 for that which has the much better FlexView screen.

Here is the page where I found the R60

The only T60's listed are 14.1", where can I find the 15" T60 for a low price?

My friend's dad works for IBM, so I am waiting to here from him on whether I can use his number for the EPP program. Assuming I can, how much would the above configuration cost for a T60 instead of a R60?

How about this. EPP is the way to go if you can get. You should note you cannot return EPP purchases.

Did you not see "View All Models"? The Education site has a wide selection and offers various discounts, but the special sales on the main site do not apply.

Zaz, that's not the EPP page, is it? The price for the same configuration at the R60, on the T60 comes out to around $2000.

And I don't know what's going on with the educational site, I cannot view any of the specific models, it keeps getting errors.

Nope just the regular page. Didn't notice you had the 7200RPM drive.

Is the T60 with flexview screen worth the extra $270 over the R60? On the T60, going off of the R60 specs from above, the processor is upgraded to T7200, memory downgraded to 1GB, hardrive downgraded to 5400rpm.

I'm not seeing a "View all models" on the educational page. But I did search for the model number, and the price was significantly higher than the Corporation page where I got the quote for the R60.

The 7200 rpm drive is an addition $160, which pushs the price over $2000 (I would love to stay under $1800).

Any idea how much less this would be in EPP? I am too impatient to wait for my friend to ask his dad, sorry.

My guess would be that EPP would be worth the wait from a monetary perspective. You can of course upgrade the hard drive after and save a few bucks. If you don't need a lot of space, the 60GB is going around $100 at the moment. Plus you'd have the old drive left over to throw in an external case for extra storage and/or backups. You could also probably sell it on eBay to make a few bucks.

I was actually able to find someones serial number through a yahoo search (surprisingly google didnt come up with any valid ones but yahoo did, although I won't use it of course, I just coudlnt wait to look) and I was not that impressed with the prices. The only 15" flexview they have is more expensive than the one I already configured. Maybe that will change soon? I don't know?

I found an even better deal on the EPP site. T60 with the flexview screen, 1GB memory, 60 GB 7200 rpm, t2400 core duo and everything else the same as this r60 for $1737.

ZaZ. How can I get an EPP or Student discount here in Canada?
Please read my other thread "X1400 on T60..." when you have a chance too, i've been spending some time on these few issues and have come to one conclusion:
Canadians pay an IMENSE premium for the same machine available in the US cheaper.
