I just noticed this recently with my recently purchased R61...
I did a clean install on my PC and now I notice that when the laptop is running it makes high pitched noises when it's on battery power. The noises are in sync with the little "cylinder with double sided arrow" icon underneath the LCD screen. Which I think stands for the processor.
They are pretty annoying noises... any idea on why they're occuring and if there is a way to stop them?

Sounds similiar to the issue from my x61 post. Is the sound worse when set on 'power saver' or 'high performance' with yours?

Yah, I think it is CPU whine. Hmmm, I'll try some of these other options to fix it later then.
Thanks
Anyone else had any luck fixing it on their R61? -
I noticed that the HDD clicks when loading up windows when you first boot it and are on battery power. I wouldn't think it's something to be concerned about. Laptops aren't always whisper quiet.
