I just bought an R61 and have been working on downloading all the windows updates etc.

I looked in the programs section and found a TON of stuff most of the programs are "ThinkPad This" and "ThinkPad That." What programs can I remove from my R61 that I shouldn't fear I won't be able to use later after I remove them?

I just want to get rid of most of the junk that's on the computer that I don't really need. Since I only have 1GB and am running Vista :( (I do plan to get a 2GB stick and replace my 1GB eventually though).

Let me know what you think. I saw from the R61 review on this site that the reviewer mentioned a ton of bloatware but I'm looking for more specific stuff.

    Thanks!

    Not entirely...

I just read that thread but it doesn't answer much of my question.

I'm just trying to decide which stuff is worth keeping if any of it. I want my system to run as fast as possible and to only keep stuff that matters to my computers functionality i.e. I guess the fingerprint reading software etc?

It would be more helpful if you could tell us all the bloatware your computer comes with by either taking a screenshot of the Add/Remove Programs or listing all of them.

I bet you'll get more replies that way.

Your question is kind of vague. The short answer is that you can get rid of everything except the OS and all necessary drivers. Look at this LINK and decide what ThinkVantage software is useful to you. You can always download them from Lenovo if you want them back.

Don't you think that at least the fingerprint reading software, stuff that stops the hard drive from spinning if it senses being dropped are good?

Well, it looks like you've answered some of your questions. Some people just want to do a clean install and install some of the software back from the Lenovo website. Yes, you should keep those softwares.
