    hi

I have bought my lenovo about 3 years ago. Few days ago I have left the laptop pluged to the ac power but laptop was swithed off(with battery in) but the next day when I tried to use my laptop it didn't work. I found similar video on yt which shows exactly what I get. any ideas? laptop wasn't damaged.

Wierd! I had the same problem - though not on a ThinkPad but on an Acer. I have yet to take the machine for analysis.

You have the same graphical problems? Looks like Motherboard/GPU is dead

When I'm taking out the hdd or memory, I can hear some signal sounds. My machine was on the table, so it shouldn't be caused by overheating. Lenovo's are good at keeping the right temperature when not playing games, aren't they? So, how the hell something went wrong?

Oh yeah...there are some threads that do discuss this problem with the R61....but isn't there a limited (though belated) offer by Lenovo to fix it even of the machine is out of warranty? Maybe the OP can explore that.

But how can you tell that is a mobo/GPU problem with the info that the OP has shared? I ask not to be rude, but just to know.

If you have artifacts on your screen then it's a graphical problem. If you have it inside your OS, it could be a driver problem, booting into safe mode can check this. If you see it in your startup/bios, before any drivers are even loaded, then it's a problem with your hardware.

As to how it could of happened, no idea. Could of just been it's time. I'm not even sure power supplies serve as surge protectors, so it could of been a power surge.

My Acer is less than 3 years old - hardly time for it to pass out! (or at least so I think.). But what you say about the power surge could be a case in point, at least with the Acer...there were 3-5 abrupt power failures at my place within a span of 30 mins or so. Maybe the OP could tell us if something like may have happened.

    No, it's motherboard integrated.

BTW, If you're not having the same problems as the video shows, then disregard what I said. You would need to describe your situation. The video you linked and the thread you just linked are two different problems

Does your R61 have the Nvidia Quadro 140m chip onboard by any chance? If so then likely the faulty Nvidia chip have unfortunately given up the ghost. Lenovo had recently honoured an extended warranty for T61p users with this fault, but you can call up to see if they will accept your R61 with this particular fault as well.

what is your type number for your laptop? xxxx-xxx?

If you take out the battery and use your laptop only on AC power, does it work?

then most likely you are in need of a new motherboard.

I sold a R61 with the exact spec, other than the WSXGA+ LCD.

Did you do a lot of GPU intensive tasks?

In Australia i can get a second hand R61 (WXGA only) for around 300 to 400 dollars. A motherboard here costs like 350 dollars. A used R500 is around 600 to 800 dollars.

I haven't used too much of it last time, I haven't been playing games for a quite long time, I could use soft like Photoshop, Expression Web and other tools at once but it wouldn't make GPU working on 100%.

Have a look what I found under the guy video that I have posted on the begining. http://www.youtube.com/user/yavorsim
He said that "yavorsim (3 hours ago) the problem was in video card. Solution - change mainboard = new computer! "

if you are going to change the motherboard, i would highly suggest you get the integrated GPU model one.
