I am a newbie who has a very sick Lenovo r61i laptop. A week ago this laptop failed to boot up but instead showed me a message which said “Fan error”. No other message! This laptop has been running Windows 7 for the last 12+ years without any problems. I just installed a SSD in the last year along with 4meg of New memory so I would like to know how can I determine which fan I need to buy? An image of a similar fan can be viewed at: https://www.bazaargadgets.com/cpu-fan-radiator-heatink-for-ibm-thinkpad-lenovo-r61-r61e-r61i.html. Is the fan at this web site the right one or should I buy the fan show at Amazon with the need paste which says: New Laptop CPU Cooling Fan with heatsink Replacement for IBM Lenovo Thinkpad T61 T61P R61 R61I P/N: 42w2460

Having invested so much in the computer it would be such a shame to scrap it. After studing the videos on Facebook at appears I can replace the fan with another one if I can find the right one for this computer. I get two messages when I look at r61i computers one says it is 15.2 screen the other site say it is a 15.4 screen. Does the fan type change with the screen size?

    Thanks

Did you try cleaning the fan?
