In light of the news of the SL400's un-thinkpadiness, which laptop do you guys think is a better buy, the Sl400 or the R61? A R61 will be about $100 cheaper than a similarly equipped SL400 (other than montevina).
Is either a good choice as a college laptop?
-
The main advantage of the R61 (14.1" model) for college would be its sturdiness. It has an internal roll cage and screen latches, both good features if you are going to be carrying this in your backpack along with books, whereas the SL400 is less rugged without these features.
On the other hand, the SL400 will get better battery life, and will have HDMI, if that matters.
The new R's and T's look pretty affordable, I would recommend spending a few hundred more to get one of these. I'm in the same boat as you, and thats what I plan to do. -
i was considering SL400 until I saw Y410...
-
Any news on the T400 yet?
-
I think the R61 is an excellent choice.
-
so between to R61 and the SL400, you guys reccomend sticking with the tried and true R61? Do you think prices on the R61 will fall any more (soon)?
-

Tough choice in light of the new Montivina line. If you have to have the latest and greatest get the SL, I would just wait for the R400 personally. The R61 is at a great price though.
-
n your opinion, a good enough price to buy right now?
-
For me, no, but I also have three laptops and a desktop at home so I can wait for exactly what I want, the new T400. I am not 100% sure of your needs.
That being said I like the chassis of the R61 better than the SL series but I like the guts of the SL better. I like what I am seeing as far as the new 25 watt procs. So I think I will save up and wait to afford a new T400 w/a 2.5+ proc.
