My choice in laptops have basically come down to a Lenovo or dell. The Levono would be a much better deal for price/performance after all is said and done yet I am concerned about the screen.

I understand this is a very subjective issue, yet considering I cannot find any matte screens (except a macbook, which obviously looks nice) in stores I can only rely on input from those who have owned one.

So, how does a R61 do outside under a lot of sunlight?

Obviously a glossy finish would have quite a bit of annoying glare from the sun, but would a matte screen just get completely washed out? I don't know which would be worse....

For home use I know I could cope with a glossy or matte screen (though I don't like all the reflections in stores).

I know macs have very nice quality screens....is a R61 comparable?

    Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the response, that's good to hear. Hopefully, that means that the matte is the better choice.

Not to get off topic, but is there any quality differences (other then higher resolution) between the WXGA and the WSXGA+. After using some 1200x800 laps in stores I am fine with the lower res of the WXGA, however this quote on the Lenovo website is why I ask "SuperView SXGA+ high resolution screen offers improved outdoor view-ability, especially in sunlight.". Any truth to this?

I would almost just upgrade the screen regardless, but have not been able to see what the higher res will look like (don't want everything to be too small)....

Anyone else have input for my original question or this second one? Thanks!

I have the R61i with the 14.1" 1280x800 screen and I regularly use it outside while waiting for my son to get out of class outside and in the car (courtesy of the nearby Starbucks Wi-Fi) and have no issues with it. I will tell you though the viewing angle is narrow.

Viewing angles are not a problem for me. Again, great to hear. Thanks steve and joe.

Does anyone have an answer to my second question?

I am reluctant to go with the WSXGA+ without being able to see how small everything will be and it really sounds unlikely that the screen would be different from WXGA (other then resolution).

But if there was any quality difference I would want the WSXGA+ and that quote on the website bugs me ("SuperView SXGA+ high resolution screen offers improved outdoor view-ability, especially in sunlight.").

    Any thoughts? Thanks!

Ok, I am thinking I will take the chance and get the WSXGA+ as having the screen too large would most likely bug me more than too small.

Also, ignore my previousl SuperView SXGA+ question as the whole superview part only comes on the X series. So only difference would be resolution...
