hey everyone, i was just wondering if my R61 is getting too hot. i downloaded thinkpad fan control and CPUID hardware monitor to monitor the temperature.

my current laptop has a x3100 with a T7250 core 2 duo. i'll be using the temperature that i get from TPTC.

so far it seems like the fan comes on like at 55 degrees celsius and it cools it down to 49 or 48 or so and it basically rinse and repeats. is this normal?

the heat isn't really a issue atm (but thats only because i'm pretty heat resistant) but i'm starting to notice that the fan comes on more often and for longer periods of time. in some other heat/temperature threads regarding the r61, people reported that their cpu temperatures is in the 30s when idling (which i find hard to believe) and some other people reported that its in the 50s when idling but i'm not exactly sure what they mean by "idling" (like just websurfing, and letting the fan keep it in the 50s range?)...

If you had your laptop for some time (4+ months) you need to clean your heatsink/fan once in a while to keep the fan from coming on all the time. Your temps @49-55 degrees don't seem out of place.

well the laptop is only about a month old. :D its just that i noticed that the fan has started to come on for longer periods of time/more frequently.

the fan is basically turning on and off every 3 minutes or so. is this normal? maybe its something that i just didnt notice before.

and also when i open thinkpad fan control, even in bios controlled mode, it starts the fan at 55 degrees celsius and stops it at 47c, but if i just use cpuid hardware instead, it starts the fan at around 65 and stops at 51 or 52. this is all with just browsing the web.

am i just being way too overly paranoid? if some R61 users can post their temperature it'd be helpful/great :)

Mine has 45-50 on "idle" with a 3-4% processor load; when it reaches 50 the cooler gets louder - and that happens pretty often - at 5'.
    So.. don't worry, I guess it's normal.
and the temperatures reported so different are maybe ACPI (45-50) and core temp (30-35)
