I received my 14.1" R61 on July 11 with a 2.50ghz intel centrino processor, discrete graphics, 3gb of ram, 7200rpm 160gb hard drive, a 6 cell battery, and vista business. The only real complaint i have after about two months of use is that my notebook gets fairly warm when it sits on my lap. During my 75 minute classes, it can get pretty warm but not quite to the point of uncomfortable. I really love the keyboard, it makes me want to just keep typing on it. The screen is pleasant to look at, and i really like the 14.1" size.

On this forum almost every thread is about the T series. The R series is built just as well as the T series, is a good amount cheaper, and is just a little bit thicker and heavier.

Are there any differences with the R61 and R400 except the R400 has a Centrino2 processor?

Did you try putting the CPU and GPU in low power mode? That should save you some heat. The new Core 2 Duos do run at lower wattages so they should have less heat.

Power manager for the CPU and I would assume nVidia supplies some sort of power management in their control panel, though I've no first hand knowledge since I got the Intel card. My machine runs very cool in low power mode and for most things you don't need the extra juice.

I bought my thinkpad through my college and got it for around $1700 with a 4 year complete coverage warranty.

I am sorry to bumped up an old thread. But i think the question in this thread have not been answered properly yet.
Any difference between R400 and R61? From R61 review i notice that the touchpad on R400 is wider and have finger scroll marking on it.
Any substantial difference between these two models? Even lenovoblogs.com did not mention this model specifically at the time of launching, not like R61 which have separate blog entry.

The overheating issue might be due to dust clogged in your air vent fans, try using some compressed air to blow it out and see if it makes a difference. Otherwise, running the CPU at lower voltages/down-clocking will help lower the internal temperature of your notebook.
