I have an unknown device on my R61 that I just can't figure out... I have read about the TPM, but I have a "Trusted Platform Module 1.2" under "Security Devices" already. Anyone have any other ideas? My unit is a 7732-CTO.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

It's all about the drivers. What driver haven't you installed (make a comparison with Lenovo's page)?

Well I've done that - the thing is, I didn't configure this machine... My boss configured and bought a bunch of them so I'm not 100% sure what options were chosen on it. For a second I thought it might have been Intel turbo memory, but that driver didn't fix it.

The thing is, it can only really be so many things. Most unknown devices still say "Network Device" or something related to what is missing a driver.

heh... ok. Thanks. Thats a generic installation guide. I'm a bit beyond that. I'm just asking if anyone out there has any experience installing vista x64 and knows, specifically, what options will give you an "unknown device" in the device manager.

    Thanks.

I gave you that to search the thread and maybe even install some drivers from that page.

Thats not specific to the R61 though. I know where to find Lenovo drivers. I've installed all of them that I feel apply to my system. I have to believe its some obscure driver - like a TPM type thing. I've installed all the typical network cards, ultranav, etc. I know there's someone out there that has installed Vista x64 on a new-ish T61 or R61 and knows right off the top of their head what driver I need to install.

I wasn't trying to sound like a jerk - I appreciate you trying to help. I'm just saying I've gone through the basic troubleshooting steps and have installed everything I think might be on this machine. I thought I read somewhere that there was no driver for the TPM for x64 Vista but apparently there is as it is installed on mine.

I think this happend to me once. Install the TPM driver onto your unknown device. It will take the driver and then after you reboot you'll have 2 TPMs, but one will have a yellow exclamation mark. Uninstall that one and it should be fixed.

Well as a last resort, I uninstalled the unknown device from the device manager, scanned for new hardware, and an unknown video controller popped up. Of course, I already have the latest intel video drivers installed and working just fine. After a minute or two, it disappeared and a box came up asking me to reboot after installing new hardware. After reboot, it was gone.

One of the stranger things I've seen a computer do...
